Thankfully no allegators came out of the water that day. Yes they do come out of the water and attack people. It is against the law to feed then and you can get not only a fine but jail time if caught feeding them. If no one fed them, then they would not see humans as a food source but because they have been fed they do come after people.
And the old tale 'to run in a zig zag pattern to get away from an allegator' is not true at all. Their eyes are on the sides of their heads and a zig zag pattern keeps you in their view with one eye or the other. The best thing to do is never put yourself in a situation to have to run but then run in a straight line as fast as you can. I'll have to post about the allegator feeding at the zoo yesterday.

On a trip to Florida years ago my duaghter, then a toddler, saw a gator in the nearby canal and had to be reassured that they wouldn't come out of the water to get her. She spent the evening preaching from her portacrib that "agahas not come out of abah." But…yikes!…I think they do, huh? Happy weekend…Debbie
