I made a Patio Table– Tutorial for ITS SO VERY CREATIVE

by CHERI on June 13, 2010

We had this stand. It used to have a COBALT glass ball that sat on it, but it broke.

I decided to make a table top to go on it so we could have a place by the backyard pond to sit and relax.
I wanted to put it beside the free wicker couch I had picked up on the side of the street, for trash pick up.

I had some flagstone, but not enough to cover the entire table so I picked up some tumbled stone tiles and then some tiny ones as well.
I grabbed a piece of plywood and sealed it. I then cut my trim, glued it with Gorilla Glue before nailing it in place.

Then I began painting it with my Patio Paints from DecoArt. I LOVE that Espresso. Once it was all dry I dry brushed it with some of the Wrought Iron Black.

Next I measured and glued down my tiny tiles, then I laid out my small tumbled stone tiles and filled in with some of the granite that I had my boys break up with a hammer. You know they had a great time doing that.

Because this is going to be outside and we get a lot of rain during hurricane season, I used a caulk for bathrooms and it was a fast drying caulk.
In no time it was ready for the grout. I used a charcoal gray–remember this is going to be outside and I didn’t want a light color getting dirty. And I sealed it.
Now you may think charcoal gray and espresso brown (the trim paint) are an odd combination but it goes well together.

And while I am talking about the Patio Paint. I am excited to see how it hold up. It is supposed to hold up to extreme heat and cold as well as rain and snow. So far, after a few weeks, it still looks amazing.
So we have a cute little table for my fun From Sea To Shining Sea Patriotic Projects to sit on.

Now I picked up a couple of these huge buckets. They were on sale for $4 each and I think they are so cute with the nautical rope for handles. I love that green color. I drilled some holes in the bottom to let the water drain out the bottom. I want to do a monogram or something on the front in the Wrought Iron BLACK. Maybe something like this:

I know it would have been easier to Monogram it before I planted tomatoes in them but I had picked everything up and wanted to get everything planted before they died. I am so excited to taste REAL tomatos. You would think we would have great tomatos year round but we don’t. Tomatoes need dirt to grow and taste good. When you grow a tomato in sand, it tastes like a hot house tomato.

Then I picked up some of these little metal buckets and I tied them together with some Hemp rope and hung them from my plant hanger and planted some herbs.

and of course they needed some cute little name tags.
