The Ballerina birthday cake was a HIT, except…

by CHERI on January 10, 2010

Yes it was perfect except for one little detail.
Miss G4 had a great birthday.  She loved the ballerinas.  We were running around all day and my husband dropped us off so I could get gifts wrapped and he ran to pick up her cake, the nice Cuban (Spanish speaking) man put the greeting on her cake (that I REALLY didn’t want on it anyway but that’s a whole different story). My idea was just the ballet going on, on top of the cake (the purpose of each different pose-ALL 9 of them)–oh well I can go with it but there is one 3 LITTLE problems, IF I had wanted the greeting on the cake–
N0. 1.  his handwriting is atrocious
No. 2.  the greeting is in GREEN (it’s not a tinker bell theme but a pink ballerina theme)
No. 3…AND for number 3
look at the picture first
then
look under the picture for No. 3
No. 3. Isn’t that special–Do you see it?
He spelled HAPPY wrong.
How do you work in the bakery dept and not know how to spell Happy?
Here are a few of the other ballerinas I googled and printed off. I had to readjust and size some of them so they all looked like they were the same size and I had to change the head out so they looked the same as well.
This next one –well I forgot to change the head out and she looks a little masculine–NO FEAR-she had a MODPODGE head replacement  surgery and she was as good as gold.
I printed them out on sheet music.  I cut out each one and also cut a 2nd one on plain card stock so they wouldn’t be flimsy.  I Mod Podged then together but  I didn’t go over every thing so some of the hands were double–I wanted it to look like they were in motion. Then I distressed the edges (with my distress ink pad) and added a little powder pink paint.
Then I added the tutus. I had this material and the sequin strand so they didn’t cost me a dime to make. I added a wooden skewer stick (had those on hand, as well. I extended the stick on past the foot a little so it could go down into the cake.  I will definitely make some for her pink tree next year.
I love how shimmery the pink material is.
OH I loved the ballet that took place on her cake–I loved them so much I packed them up and will probably use them again for another birthday in a few years. She LOVED them. Her face lit up when she saw the cake and she just squealed and said “it’s BALLERINAS”.
I have a give-a-way going on –click on the button (its also in the left side bar) and it will take you to the give-a-way with all the details.
Its So Very Creative
Be sure to add my button or URL to your post.
Then add it to the party.
If you have any problems just let me know and if you don’t have a blog but would like to post to the party just send me an e-mail and I would be glad to add it for you.
Favorites will be posted in a little bit (I still have a house full of sickies). Have I told you how cold it is here. No we don’t have snow but it had gotten down to 32 degrees a few nights. It is so cold when all you wear is shorts and capri pants. We don’t have fireplaces, warm clothes or even winter coats. I tried getting the kids some sweats but the stores are sold out.

Love those ballerinas! Oh, I'd save them, too! Very cute! Maybe I can convert this idea for my daughter's mermaid theme – if she's still into that by then – birthday party this spring … I've already done several figure-ish cakes … Hmmmmm… 🙂 Great work!

Those ballerinas are absolutely wonderful! I love their little skirts and how they all seem to be dancing together on top of the cake. You should definitely re-use them. Sorry about the misspelled Happy!

Great cake1 LOve the ballerinas!!! What a lucky girl! I can't believe they spelled "happy" wrong. You should send it to "cake wrecks," the blog!

What a sweet cake, but shame on the baker to not know how to spell happy! The ballerinas were precious and dancing all over the cake, I bet it was not even noticable! Have a wonderful day and thanks for the great ideas (you know I have two little princesses too!).

Isn't that always how it is…nothing quite turns out like you have pictured in you head. Glad she liked the ballerinas though. Thanks for posting to Made it Monday! Jules
