Blogging Tutorial-follower picture is blank or shows up as a silhouette

by CHERI on March 5, 2010

I had a tutorial 2 weeks ago on how to fix your picture if it is a silhouette but sometimes I go in to follow a new blog and all of a sudden my picture will show up as a silhouette. I ALWAYS check to see how my picture comes up when I sign in to follow a blog.   I know I have it correct in my account so if it all of a sudden shows up as a silhouette, I follow this procedure and it fixes it every time.

I see my name and I click on the word OPTIONS  (under my name), a drop down comes up and I click on SITE SETTINGS, that will take you to another page and on the far right side you will see STOP FOLLOWING–click it (yes you are cancelling following this blog but if you don’t your picture will remain a silhouette).  The next thing that usually comes up is ARE YOU SURE –YES (yesterday I had one come up that said STOP FOLLOWING a second time and that is the first time that has happened so I mention that, in case Google is changing the boxes and words that come up.)  NOW go back in a follow again, then click DONE.  If your picture shows up blank (just nothing there a white box–I am not talking about a silhouette of a gray fake person) it is fixed–it is just a Google glitch and when Google is working again your picture will show.  That has been my experience so far.  If you find anything different let me know.

Just thought I’d share that you can also have a photo by your comment by registering and uploading at http://www.gravatar.com, since Google doesn’t do this on certain platforms. It is compatible with WordPress as well as some other blogging platforms where Name/Email are required to leave a comment. Then you will see your photo instead of a silhouette or what I call a Quilting Block.
