The Branchelier TUTE

by CHERI on March 19, 2010

Have I got a TUTE for you. I know it’s not Thursday but this is worthy of the TUTE button.

Make a Branchelier.

We have some very dear friends of ours the Terrells.  Jerry played for the Kansas City Royals and his sweet wife Kathy was my wedding coordinator.

They have 3 AMAZING kiddos as well.

Jim, their middle child,  married a sweet gal Misty and they have a darling little girl and a brand new baby boy.

Misty wrote in her diary, as a little girl that she wanted to marry Jimmy one day. She got a great guy, in my opinion and of course that’s the only one that counts–hee hee.

(if this doesn’t melt your heart, I don’t know what would.)

and he got a wonderful, light hearted gal.

(her caption under the photo- Does this gown make my butt look big?)

They built a DARLING HOME-

and I will show you more of their home next Friday but I wanted to zero in on one particular room and project today.

(Their living room.)

It’s in the living room but you need a different view.

Look at this Branchelier.

Jim made it.

Isn’t he a smarty

–well actually he is quite smart and adorable–

did you see those blue eyes?

And I Love the vinyls they have

–I am sure that is a MISTY touch since she loves to sing.

She couldn’t have picked a better phrase with the branchelier right there.

Have you ever seen these and priced them?

Deanna wish has some

and so does Rustic Gone Wild
They range in price from about $1000 to over $5000

$3418

$5,078

So I asked HOW JIM MADE IT–
They have woods and a creek around them, they bought some land out in the country.

I would image they had quite a supply for this project.

1. Jim used hickory branches that he steamed in a PVC pipe to make them flexible.
2.He then “molded” the branches into the shape he desired and let them dry for 3-7 days.
3. Molding…he used 2×4’s and made a square, then put long nails in the wood to “hold” the “J” shaped branch in place and laid it flat on the floor. Hope that makes sense.
4.After that it was just a matter of assembling it and attaching the chain/lights.
It cost about $100 to make.
Sounds a lot better than $5,000. I think Jim could have a side business–don’t you?

If you have any questions let me know and I will ask for you.

THANKS JIM AND MISTY,

now you have all of us dreaming up ideas.

Wow! I am so impressed. Speechless, in fact. Which is rare for me. Don’t you just love God’s creative nature as it oozes out His kids?

Yeah, I am all over that. I did a much simpler version for a tablescape at Valentines that I posted (I hung paper globes from it…no real electricity). It was no where near as amazing…but I LOVE this idea..LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!

How beautiful, the man definately has talent! My daughter and her husband also have a little girl and were just blessed with a healthy baby boy also! My question though is, what lighting did he start with in the center or did he wire those lights into the branches? I would love to give it a try one day. Also, how big of a pvc pipe did he use…I’m trying to picture it.
Aside from that I just found and am LOVING your blog!!

This is awesome, Cheri. No. I hadn’t seen it before. I just started blogging in May and had only started reading The Lettered Cottage a month before that. So, it’s still a very new world to me. I’m going to send this post to Donna at Funky Junk Interiors, if you don’t mind. She recently posted on her Facebook about a chandy just like yours that she snapped a picture of in a hotel lobby. She wants one. If I were you, I’d link it up to her Saturday Night Special tonight. I’m pretty darn sure she’ll love it and will probably want to know how your hubs made it. Beautiful

Hugs,
Jami

I meant she’ll probably want to know how Jim made it.

Hi! Love the chandelier! How did he steam the branches? Did he have an existing chandelier that moulded the branches to? I wanted one of these chandeliers for my dining room, but can not afford one. Any more info would greatly be appreciated. Have a great day! Thanks, Dee Hess

He took a pvc pipe put the branches into it, steamed them in the PVC. Pulled them out and molded them. Her did not attach to another chandlier although you could if you needed to. He ran the electrical in with the branches.

Hi Cheri,
Love the twig chandelier, how did Jim connect the chain to the twigs, and how did he connect the lights to the twigs?
I am dying to make one, but I want to know what to do first.
Thanks for the great blog.

Hi All,

That is absolutely beautiful. I’d buy one now too and can’t afford the ones from the store.
