Its So Very Creative-Naturally dyed Easter Eggs

by CHERI on April 4, 2010

My post today are my Naturally dyed Easter Eggs. I just love how they come out, so natural and the colors are so much softer.

You can boil your eggs in your different dye concoctions but to me that is a lot of different pans cooking. I boil a big pan of water and then pour it over dried onion skins, orange peels or spices to make my mixtures and then add in 2-3 tsp of vinegar and then dip my boiled eggs. I do not diluted the coffee or tea The amount of time you let them sit will determine the depth of color. You can also mix different things to get different colors or you can dip in one color and then another. Some of them need to soak for 30 minutes.

Here is a list of some food items that are good to use: Canned blueberries, cherries, red cabbage leaves, grape juice, cranberry juice, dill, raw spinach, canned beet juice, red onion skins, yellow onion skins, orange peel, lemon peel, carrots, cumin, chili powder, tumeric, curry, cherries…

Follow Me on Pinterest You get everything from a sage, gold, melon, pink, blue, green, grape, yellow, cappachino…I love the variety of colors–how about you?

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter.

I am excited to be “beta testing” the NEW Thumbnail Linky from MckLinky. I am the first person to get to test it… so if you get an error, contact Brent at MckLinky (brent@brentriggs.com) so he can correct any problems or you can send me an e-mail (Cheri@itssoverycheri.com) and I will get it to Brent.

This is not available to the general public yet, but will be by the end of this coming week.

With this linky be sure to enter one of your pictures from your project. We prefer the picture to be from your project but if for some reason you don’t have one you can enter in your blog button or your profile picture. By entering your project picture, you will capture the attention of more people who might other wise only look at a handful of posts–this way your picture may just grab their attention and make them want to check out your post. I suggest an after picture rather than a before.

Just click to enter your project then enter your picture then instead of just having a list of links, it will show a little picture of your project.

AND PLEASE RE-SIGN up to follow me–just because you followed me at the old blog doesn’t mean you are following me now–Google swipes your followers so I had to start all over and not even half are back yet.

IF the linky is missing:

–He is most likely trying to fix any of the other problems I have sent over to him.

–I do have all of my parties up till 11:59pm- EST, every week.

–Being the Beta Tester is helping to work out all the kinks so it works smoothly for all of you gals

–thanks for hanging in and I will contact each of you that has left me a note saying you could not get in, when I hear that it is back up again (I have contacted him to let him know about the issue.  All of  the code is still on the post so I am sure it will be back-soon)

–in the mean time PLEASE check to make sure you are following me. A lot of my old followers have signed into parties and not re-signed up and I know they just think they are still following me.

Happy Easter, Cheri! The only issue I had was that I could not move the cropping box to crop my picture to what I wanted, so I just went with what it was allowing.

Hi Cheri – I’m stopping over from Cottage Instincts. I am now your newest follower! Linking was easy but like Cathy, I could not crop my image (so it’s a bit blurry!). Thanks for hosting.

Hi Cheri! Love your blog and thanks for hosting the linkies. I also could not move the cropping box where I wanted it and also could not figure out how to link to my specific posts.

I’m soooo glad to hear that MckLinky will be doing pic linkys too! I was hoping I wouldn’t have to switch linkys!! Pic linkys are the best! Thanks for hosting!

I love the picture linky thing!! That is such a great idea!! THanks for letting me link this week!

Cheri, I just saw your comment on the Mrs. Meyers giveaway, and thought I’d mention that fragrances give me headaches too, although I’ve never been diagnosed with migraines. I blogged recently about changing to natural hand soap, which made those headaches disappear. My post is here: http://cleangreenstart.wordpress.com/2010/03/31/hand-soap-sudsy-clean/
And then when I came to your site to leave you a message, I saw that you’re doing natural egg dyes too this year! I also have a post on that which you can find on my blog.
I’m new to blogging as of January…all you guys who link to each other and have all these adorable pictures of craft projects really inspire me…not sure I can keep up with that, but I’m just doing a project this year to invite people to join me in monthly Healthy Habit Challenges to make our homes less toxic. Anyway, I didn’t mean to go on about myself, and you don’t have to approve this ramble as a comment, I just wanted to say that perhaps fragrances from natural oils won’t make you ill.
Health and happy home to you! ~Bronwyn

I agree with the cropping issue, but that’s minor. If you are passing feedback on to Brent, when the picture is resized it’s distorting the image. I noticed that the other picture link programs don’t do that, so not sure if that’s something he wants to look into or not.

Thanks so much for hosting this week, hope you had a wonderful Easter!

Hi Cheri! Happy Easter!

Your eggs look amazing! We didn’t color eggs this year but we definitely ‘missed’ the tradition. 🙁 I heard using brown eggs creates beautiful colors too. I’ve never seen natural egg dye but it’s definitely something to consider after seeing your beauties!

I hope all is well! Talk to you soon!

The cropping box didn’t work so my picture is not what I wanted it to be.

Your eggs are awesome, great colors! For a big WOW try rubbing them with a little cooking oil…..just use a paper towel.

Thanks for hosting!

I just saw in the newspaper yesterday, an article about natural egg dying. I just love these – good for you. I’m going to put it on my to-do list. You may want to repost this before Easter next year. Oh, btw, I cannot get your button codes to work. 🙁

These colors are absolutely fabulous! I would have never thought of using food products to dye the eggs but they are beautiful!

14 Danielle April 5, 2010 at 11:32 am

Your eggs are gorgeous! I wish I had known this before Friday, when I colored eggs with my family 🙂 There’s always next year! I think I would hollow them out so that they could pile up in pretty glass jars.

Hi Cheri – I can’t find the linky? Is it gone? Thanks for hosting – I hope to join in the fun when I find where to link! Hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend!

16 Mary Beth @ Live. Laugh Make Something April 5, 2010 at 2:42 pm

I can’t find the link either…. I’ve been by 5 or 6 times. I hope to link up soon! Thanks for hosting the party!

17 Holly L April 5, 2010 at 3:27 pm

Did the linky disappear? I thought I was nuts…but I see some comments above me too…so maybe I am not.

LOVE the eggs. This year, I just did the coffee…next year I will try more colors.

18 debbie April 5, 2010 at 8:56 pm

This is awesome Cheri!~ I am so glad I found your blog from Holly over at 504 Main….she knows the coolest people:) Thanks again for hosting and I love the new linky!

19 Holly L April 5, 2010 at 9:40 pm

Yeah…fantastic! LOVE it!

20 Stephanie Lynn April 5, 2010 at 11:26 pm

Ugh! I’m having trouble with the linky. It would not let me crop the photo. Just took me directly to the next page to submit. Not as user friendly as the other picture linkys out there. Hopefully they can fix it. Just too many steps in this one – Hope this feedback helps! Thanks Cheri!
