Well we are home, I still have this stinkin’ migraine but my son is in NO PAIN and loves his braces. He was not thrilled — before leaving the house this morning about it — at all — but we talked, as we drove over to the island, to have them put on and the power of a Mom’s persuasion won out and he really does love them. Man am I good–hee hee.
He said he anticipated it being painful and it was not painful at all, the most discomfort was them pulling on his lips to get one of the side ones in.
If you or your children need braces I would highly recommend checking into an orthodontist that uses
The Damon System. It is a different technique for braces.

Well, my 14 year old had them already, but you know I have three more behind her! I will have to go check the method out. Glad he is ok. The worst part is being able to chew since they are sore. Have lots of mashed potatoes on hand! Hope your headache gets better soon!
I used to be an Ortho assistant and the Damon brackets are amazing!! Glad to hear your son is doing well with them so far!!
I have worked for orthodontists for years and so I totally understand all about them 🙂 cold things tend to feel good if there is any soreness.
as for the migranes I feel for you there too. My dad had suffered with them since I was a baby and we still battle them. several doctors later and we still don’t have help for him but I hope you find some soon.
I took a migraine the day we talked to the orthodontist about our daughter’s braces….about 15 years ago!!! After anything he would do to her braces (tightening, etc.)…he would give her sugarless gum to chew to help with them getting sore!!
Glad everything went okay! I will definitely look into that system when it’s time for braces in our fam. 🙂
We are headed to the ortho on the 13th of May for my daughter’s braces to be put on. They will be the Damon system. Glad to hear a good report from someone who has actually experienced them!
I used to get one of these once or twice a year but they have gotten more frequent over the past couple of years. Last year I had a really bad one that lasted for days and days and it was so bad, my husband had to take me to the emergency room one night. We got home around 2 in the morning and the hospital had gotten my pain level down to about a 2 and said they thought they had broke the chain and I should be OK but if not to come back. I woke up at 6 am and the pain level was up to a 9 and I tried taking over the counter stuff, 30 min later, I was waking up my poor husband and he had to take me back–that time they gave me a prescription once they got the pain level back down. My Dr has me on meds that I take daily to try and keep them at bay but every once in a while one just won’t go away.
My Dad has them too–and we have been told they tend to be hereditary.
I hope none of my kiddos get them. My husband gets them too but his are different. There are 2 types of migraines-classic and common. I can;t remember which one he has but when he gets one, it’s almost like he is having a stroke or something–his arms go numb and he gets tunnel vision. He starts talking strange. He knows the words he wants to say but something else will come out and he has to try really hard to say the word and sometimes he can’t get it out. Ex: He might say: I’m hungry, can you get me some work. He knows it isn’t the right word, when he says it but he struggles to get it out. After the aura goes away he gets a bad headache.
Unfortunately with a Mom, Dad and grandparent that has them–my kids risk level is higher.
I’m glad he isn’t in pain! I have three kids in braces right now. I am very well known down at the Ortho’s office – lol!
Sorry you had a migraine. That’s no fun!

I hope your migraine has vanished! I hate migraines! It sounds like the braces are working out well for your son. 🙂
