How hard are you –on yourself ?

Proverbs 31:29
29 “Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”

I found this information while studying this passage, and found it interesting.

Proverbs 31:29 illustrates how a husband praises his wonderful wife. Husbands need to ask themselves, “When was the last time I told my wife she’s the best?” If we desire an excellent wife, we must treat her as if she already is one. Then watch the miracle happen!

Men are often experts at finding fault, at discovering what was not done just right. We think we are helping our mate to be a better wife by constantly pointing out these things. Yet just the opposite happens! Instead, we must try to find ways to praise, honor, encourage, and promote growth and joy in the hearts of our wives. We need to pray for God to help us love our wives as Jesus loves the church, giving Himself for her, and presenting her to Himself as being without spot or wrinkle (Ephesians 5:25-30). Are we without spot or wrinkle? The lesson here is obvious!

We, as woman, are so many times, critical of ourselves, we beat ourselves up-mentally. We compare ourselves to our friends, we compare ourselves to what we weighed in high school, the criticism never ends. We need our husbands to challenge us to be better but also to praise us for the things we do. If all they see are those things that they would like to change and never the things that they can be proud and thankful of, it is one more nail in the coffin, it confirms, in our minds, in those moments that we are beating ourselves up, what we have already told ourselves. If there are any husbands reading this–know this one thing–LOVE your wife, raise her up, she does enough critical thinking of herself. She needs you to be the balance in that area of her life.

Seriously if Martha looked at this woman she would know exactly where she falls short and she would have a running list of things she could beat herself up over.

Let’s take this to the blogging side of things. Do you compare yourselves to others. It is easy to say I wish I had…

It is wiser to compare someone’s activities to Christ and decide if you need to challenge yourself but realize that God made you perfect and in His Image. He placed you in the circumstances you are in and put His stamp of approval on it.

Is the grass always greener on the other side. Usually not–it may be a different kind of grass but it comes with its own challenges and treatment.

It is soo hard for us to not beat ourselves up, and to not compare ourselves to others. But I will say I find comfort in knowing I am not the only one out there who does this, or feels this way.

This is so true, Cheri. We (women) are very critical of ourselves. Thank you for the gentle reminder that we should be content & learn to stop beating ourselves up!!

I am so thankful to have a wonderful, Godly hubby that does all of what you say in this post, but that doesn’t stop me from doing the typical crazy chick thing a lot of times. 🙂 Loved your reference to Martha. Made me laugh. And, thank you for these encouraging, spiritual posts. So refreshing!

Blessings!

It is easy to compare what I am to others, but I certainly wouldn’t want their problems that come along with their talents too…… :O)
