From Sea to Shining Sea

by CHERI on May 29, 2010

This is not your typical Red, Copper, White,  White Wash and Blue, Robin Egg Blue Pariotic Tutorial.  It is Patriotic with a twist of Nautical.
,

I did several projects for you this month.

They all go together, but today I am going to show you just one of the projects I did.

Here is what you will need to make this project:

square dowel rods

round dowel rods

water resistant silicone

a chair leg

Drill and drill bit

sand paper

paper towels

Gorilla Glue-epoxy glue

Gorilla Glue tape

STARFISH

Deco Art Primer Sealer

I used my Deco Art White Wash Paint

All of the other paint that I used was in the Deco Art PATIO PAINT line.  The colors I used are:

 Wrought Iron Black

Rich Espresso–MY NEW FAVORITE COLOR–it is a beautiful brown with just a hint of glimmer to it.  LOVE IT.

Tuscan Red

Eucalyptus Green

Pinecone Brown

Honest Copper

I purchased a square dowel rod, cut it and then glued them together with a water resistant silicone.  This is an item that I will have outside, so I wanted to make sure it would withstand water.

I put it together so it made a mini butcher block. I used my Gorilla Glue tape to secure them while the block dried.

(unfortunately I lost a bunch of my photos that I took, I downloaded them but they are no where to be found.)

I drilled a hole into the top, middle square.

Then I took a chair leg, added more silicone and screwed it in.

Wipe off the excess silicone.

Once dry, I sanded the excess off, then used the DecoArt Primer Sealer and let it sit for 24 hours.

Since I had to wait 24 hours I began another project and tested out my Patio Paints.

Then next day I started putting colors on, I was practicing with the colors and trying to decide what colors I wanted to use and where I wanted them.

I knew they probably wouldn’t stay the same colors but this paint is supposed to withstand all kinds of weather temperatures and conditions (snow, rain…), so I thought it can’t hurt to try the colors out-it’s just another layer of protection.

I drilled holes into the top to fit the size of my round dowel rods.

I painted the top of the chair leg with the Tuscan Red Patio Paint and then went over it with the Copper.

I painted the round dowel rods with my white wash, then went over them with my Rich Espresso Patio Paint, then back over them with the White Wash.

The next section was painted/layered  with the Eucalyptus, Wrought Iron Black and White Washed.

The next area was painted with a mixture of the pinecone brown mixed in with some of mywhite wash, then I went over it with more of the White Wash and Dry Brushed in the Eucalyptus andRich Espresso.

The bottom  of the chair leg, was painted Black and then I went over it with the Rich Espresso.  The butcher block was painted with the Rich Espresso.

I think it kind of looks like a lighthouse.

Depending on what colors you layer–they look totally different.

So now for the STAR FISH, to tie in my “From Sea to Shining Sea” theme. I glued them on with my Gorilla Epoxy Glue.

See the table top it is sitting on.  I made that for another project this month.

I love the nubs on the starfish.

And here is another project I will be telling you about over the next week.

Do you see these lights.  I can not wait to share this fun project.  There is not a candle in there.

Very neat, Cheri! I even love that base set up {with the block and the leg} painted and used as an accessory in the house! I am looking forward to the others ~ I’d love to try the pail with the markers.
