I just bought some black (because they didn’t have brown) wide elastic and some brown grossgrain ribbon and grabbed some brown thread and a needle.
I wrapped the elastic so the end overlapped on the outside. If it had not been covered with ribbon you would have been able to see it. I did this so the end wouldn’t rub against her ankle and bother her. I knew the ribbon would cover it.
You will have the right side of the elastic on the outside (you will have a lot more elastic than were the red end, there will be enough to go around to the other strap). Tuck the RIGHT SIDE under the braided brown strap that is part of the shoe, then wrap the elastic around the strap so now the wrong side is on top of the right side and you stitch it to the elastic. Pull the elastic so it is snug but not tight, give yourself a little extra to wrap around the strap on the other side of the shoe and stitch down. At this point, I put them on her feet and pulled the elastic so it was snug but not tight, giving myself enough to wrap around the strap and stitch it down. I took it off her foot and stitched the other side of the elastic down, tried it on to make sure it fit, then started gathering the ribbon and attaching it to the elastic every few stitches. She has had them for about a month and they have done well.
Then I started gathering the ribbon , tucked the end and stitched it down. Then I stretched the elastic out and stitched the ribbon to the elastic. At the end I folded the ribbon under and stiched it down. Aren’t they darling. I think Carrie Bradshaw would approve. I know Miss G4 loves them. Her 3 year old little self thinks she is so grown up and the strap helps keep them on her feet.

This is so cute! Carrie would definitely approve. 🙂 I have a pair of my own shoes that I’ve been wanting to do this to. How did you attach the elastic to the shoe?
Wowza!
What a darling idea! I’d even wear them.
