Spring Cleaning Tips

What type of legacy do you want to leave for generations to come.

Doing things in a more GREEN way are more and more appealing to me all of the time.

Here are some tips for you:

On a regular basis pour boiling water over your toothbrushes and toothbrush holder. We do this any time someone is sick with a cold or flu bug so they are not putting a toothbrush into their mouth with “sick” germs.

Orange, Lemon, Lime, and Grapefruit peels are saved around here to clean and freshen up the garbage disposal.

Add a Tablespoon of baking soda to chopped up peels, then add water. You can either Freeze them (keep a baggie full of ice cubes to use whenever you want) or just fill your sink full of water then begin draining and run the disposal. Once all of the water is drained you will pour your citrus solution down the drain –continue running the garbage disposal till the peel are ground up. This will help remove grime and give your sink a fresh citrus smell. If you have a baggie full of ice cubes you can throw in a couple of ice cubes any time you want to freshen up your sink.

My favorite GREEN cleaning supplies:

1-SALT
2-Baking Soda
3-Vinegar
4-Sunlight
5-Boiling water

Did you know you can remove under arm odors and yellowinf (from perspiration) with salt and baking soda?
Make a paste of baking soda, salt and water and apply to the area. Let it sit, then pour boiling water over the area. If it is not all removed do it again.

Vinegar and baking soda are great cleaning agents for your kitchen.

Baking soda in your laundry will freshen your laundry and clean and deodorize your washing machine.

To get sport socks really white and remove the stench-soak in a bucket of baking soda before washing.

Did you know shampoo is a great tool for removing ring around the colar?

Removing stains from clothes–immediately and not drying the clothes in the dryer before the stain is completely removed is the first thing you need to keep in mind. If you have a stubborn stain and you are having a hard time getting removed, using the old method of hanging clothes outside does wonders for stains. If you don’t have a clothes line–as most people do not–lay them out on a patio deck table (if it is not a windy day.)

Have any of you tried making your own laundty soap? That is the next thing I want to try. I have used so many green tips for years–just haven’t ever made my own laundry soap.

Great tips! I love the idea of freezing baking soda and citrus peel ice cubes to be used whenever. I often run them in the disposal, but I don’t always have citrus fruit handy when the disposal is stinky. Thanks for sharing.

I love this tip and we have a ton of citrus in our yard right now. I’ve used the peels whenever we eat some of the fruit, but never put baking soda with it. I do use the soda to scour my corian sink & love how that works.
