SLIPCOVER Transformation by Comfort Works

by CHERI on August 27, 2011

I purchased 4 chairs from a thrift shop –Oh about a year ago. I even bought the canvas to make slip covers but one project after another came before the slip covers. My husband thought the chairs were ugly and could not see the potential in them and threatened to get rid of them if I didn’t do something quick.

Now I have to tell you–when I saw them at the thrift shop I did not purchase them the first time. I thought–‘those chairs have good bones and could be GREAT chairs’ (but they were pretty ugly in their current condition). The fabric looked like someone had let a cat use them as a scratching post.  My thrift shop typically has super high pricing on pieces (I think that they think they are an antique store) and you rarely find a GREAT deal but I walked into the store a week later and they were having a furniture sale. I got each of these chairs for $1.50–I couldn’t believe no one had grabbed them up. NOW I could not pass them up.

{Fast FORWARD to the part where hubs was threatening to make the chairs do a disappearing act because I still had no slip covers made} but then I was contacted by Comfort Works through The DIY Club and they offered me the opportunity to review a product for them.  HAPPY DANCE.

Do you see how bad they looked?
Can you understand why the hubs was threatening to become a magician?
Can you see the potential?

I could see the potential and knew they could be fabulous.

Let me tell you a little about Comfort Works. They are an Australian based company. They have hundreds of fabric designs–lots of fabric blends to choose from.  they have solids, leather, stripes, florals…linen, cotton, blends…lots to choose from.

Their specialty is customizing AFFORDABLE IKEA Sofa Covers but they also do Curtains, Pillows, Coverlets and Cushion Slipcovers. Currently their slipcovers only are for IKEA. I had no idea where my thrift store chairs came from but I sent them pictures–and they said they could do the slip covers because it was a basic parson chair-like the IKEA ones.

They sent me several swatches (from fabrics I picked) and let me tell you the quality of their fabric was quite impressive. Once I decided on a couple of fabrics they had me take measurements of my chair and e-mail those into them. I took a lot of measurements to get as accurate of a slip cover as I could.

My chairs have 2 colors.
They did piping and a band
I asked if I could have a tie added–

All of those extras without having ever touched my chairs and look how fabulous they came out.
{I am planning on getting new cushion padding and I will reinforce the bottom of the cushion area.  I also want to work on the chair legs.}

Are you impressed?  I am.
They even sent me 2 pillows.

I have an ottoman coming very soon–STAY TUNED.

This is an EPIC transformation. Follow Me on Pinterest

Do you want to know a secret?–These chairs looks so fabulous I can easily pull them into the living room for extra seeting when company is over.

My friend Holly from 504 Main (and one of the DIY Club gals) did a post about her Comfort Works curtains. Go check it out. We will be doing a give-a-way over at the DIY Club in September and someone will be winning their very own Comfort Works item. Be sure to FOLLOW the DIY Club and sign up to FOLLOW me on facebook–we will be posting the give-a-way VERY SOON.

Have you made any slip covers?  Care to share all of your secrets and projects.  I thought it would be fun to have a linky slip cover – curtain party as a suprise for the week–in honor of my new chairs and Holly’s curtains.  Be a SHOW OFF and show us what you’ve done.

I will do a showcase over the Labor Day HOLIDAY.

Come all you show offs–show me what you’ve done.

These are amazing chairs! You really did magic on them. And to think the chairs only cost $1.50 a piece!
I am going to took up Comfort Work and see what they might have for my 2 18t century sofas. Do you think Ikea made 18th century sofas? Doesn’t hurt to ask… just like you did!!!!
I too would use these in my living room! You really gave them a chic look with the ivory and brown fabrics… and of course the bow!
Thanks, Cheri. Wonderful informative post!

Those look great, Cheri! I’m guessing they are reasonably priced.

Cheri,
I was just online looking at parson’s chair slipcovers this morning. This is exactly what I am looking for. However, the link you posted for Comfort Works does not work. Can you give me their contact information?

Thanks

WOW congrats on the great score on the chairs! I don’t blame hubby for yelling at you… they were pretty horrific! Lol. I’ve never slip covered anything, but I did just recover an ikea chair (blog post to come soon)!
