For the love of…

by CHERI on October 31, 2011

Well I could say for the love of baseball and that would be true

or for the love of Kansas City and that would be true as well but I have to say without a doubt …

for the love of our child.  Our oldest child LOVES baseball.  Love is not even a strong enough word.

While we were in Kansas City this summer (the hubs was doing a job search and putting feelers out –nothing came through yet but fingers crossed) we took the kids to a baseball clinic put on by professional baseball players and coaches.  (sorry no pictures for that event–trying to keep track of 4 kids going in 4 different directions with hundreds of other kids in attendance–add to it –it was super hot that day and I was making multiple trips to the middle area for water for all 4 kids (Add to the fact that this crazy mom showed up in heels). Sweet little Miss G4 was not participating and she was done long before the event was done and taking pictures was more than this mom could handle.

The boys really enjoyed the camp.

Mental Note for all of you— Our oldest is a baseball fanatic.  He loves pitching. He can rattle off more facts abour baseball from any era than anyone I know.

As the clinic was wrapping up I saw Steve Foster, the Kansas City Royals bullpen coach. I walked up and introduced myself and told him about our oldest.

Now you have to understand that our son knew nothing about this–the hubs didn’t even know. It was one of those spur of the moment things.

Steve Foster then got on the stage and talked with all of the kids before he and the other guys left to go to the stadium.

As they are leaving he walks up and introduced himself to our son –I could tell G1 was shocked.

Steve then shocked all of us and gave us his cell phone number and said he would like to schedule a time to work out with G1.
{Can you see G1 standing politely but jumping up and down inside. That is exactly what was happening. He was in shock and smiling from ear to ear.}

(MAJOR MOM POINTS were accumulating)

Follow Me on Pinterest We scheduled a time to meet with Steve and have him work one on one with G1–and guess where they worked out–at the Royals Stadium.  This got better by the moment.  (child number 4 was more concerned about her dance moves at the moment.)

We started off in the dug out, then headed to the bullpen. Follow Me on Pinterest

They worked out on the Royals field.  ( I will not kill you with too many pictures –yes we took lots of pictures.)

Follow Me on Pinterest At the end of their time together he talked to him about following his dreams but more importantly having a person relationship with Jesus Christ.

He gave each of the kids a MLB baseballs. He signed them and told us if we came to a game to come over to the bullpen and he would get the guys to sign the balls.

We headed to the game that night and sat up in the fountains.

It was a hot day and the mist from the fountains felt pretty good.

As the sun went down it turned into a beautiful evening.  One our kids will always remember.

I made a sign for him–it was his request — he requested the exact saying that he wanted.  He specified the look.  Check out his sign.

Congrats to the St Louis Cardinals on making the 2011 World Series a memory maker.  If it couldn’t be the Royals then we would want the Cardinals to win and WIN they did.
