I was wanting to make a soft white whispy flower to go with my very subdued Valentine banner. When I came across this picture of cotton I knew I wanted to make my own stem of cotton (without the thorns).
I saw this pom pom craft that Carolyn from Carolyn’s Homework did. SO CUTE.
I started out by cutting out some leaves in a black card stock paper that I had on hand. I grabbed 3 black pipe cleaner, dark gray wool yarn, my hot glue gun and some cotton balls. I made tiny hole at the end of each leave and pushed 3 leaves up towards the top of 2 pipe cleaners then folded over the pipe cleaner so the leaves would stay in place. (I used 2 for a little more strength). I then took the last pipe cleaner and folded it in half then wrapped it onto the main stem. I added 3 leaves to each of the branches. I curled my leaves and molded them to hold my cotton.
I then took 6 cotton balls–2 for each one of the plants. I loosened up the cotton, hot glued it to the bottom of each “pod”. I then wrapped the stems with the gray wool yarn. The last thing I did was add some little feathery grayish green fake greenery to the bottom of the underneath side of the leaves.
I put the stem of cotton into my weathered jar that I made {here}
I am entering this into this party:
