Chapter 10

Continued from Chapter 9:

One night I could not stop throwing up and as I lay on the bathroom floor I asked my husband to call the Dr. We ended up rushing to the hospital. I was put on several IV’s. I threw up all of the IV’s as they were getting ready to check us out. They were not checking us out any longer–we were sent back in for more IV’s, and then finally home in the middle of the night with medicine. Even though I was sick I was thrilled to be pregnant. I would do whatever it took to keep this precious bundle safe inside of me.

Chapter 10:

Month after month we would go to our Dr. appointments and our baby was growing like babies are supposed to grow.  We found out we were having a little boy.  Around week 22 the constant illness began to go away.  I began working on his nursery.  We could not wait to hold him in our arms.  I loved feeling him move inside of me.  He was my precious little buddy.

Towards the end of my pregnancy I began retaining a lot of water and my Dr. decided to induce us on our due date.  After a very long and hard labor I finally held my precious little boy in my arms.  The first words he heard were “I love you with all of my heart”.  My husband came over to my bedside and he prayed thanking God for this little guy.

Our little guy had filled every maternal need inside of me.  If God chose to never give us another child to hold and love I knew I would be OK.

I remember as we got ready to leave the hospital thinking ‘they are letting us leave and I don’t know how to take care of every possible thing that will come up’.  I knew we would figure it out together.  Nursing was a struggle but that is a whole other story.

I loved dressing him in little outfits and taking him places.  It was just so much fun being a Mom.  He was a fast learner and we knew he was very smart.  I started noticing that he would go for toys that were orange and I began telling my husband that I thought his favorite color was orange.  Orange is still his favorite color to this day. (He is a teenager now.)

When he was  4 months old we were planning a trip from Missouri to Michigan for a family reunion.  We got to see extended family that we had not seen for a long time.  We were in the upper peninsula of  Michigan on a lake.  One day we decided to go over to Mackinac Island–it was so cold that day.  Mackinac Island has no cars on the island so you take a boat over and you either rent bikes, take a horse drawn carriage ride or walk.  We had our stroller with us–biking was out of the question and so we opted to take the buggy ride.  It was a fun time.

As soon as we got home I ran to the grocery store and while shopping I decided to pick up a pregnancy test–I had been feeling strange the week before while on vacation.  I told my husband that I had bought one–just in case.  Our little guy was only 4 months old –my husband’s reply was–“that would be great if you were pregnant”.  I thought he was nuts.  I had my hands full with a little guy that had stole my heart.

That night–I woke up in the middle of the night and I had to go to the bathroom.  That was not usual for me–I typically slept through the night so I ran to get the pregnancy test out of the kitchen.  I could barely get the package open.  I stood there waiting for 5 minutes in the middle of the night.  My husband and little guy were sound asleep –everything was completely quiet and still.

Until next time….
