Kitchen Sneak Peek

Our kitchen is large but there is a little overhang of wall that makes the kitchen feel dark.

It is the support beam for the loft area up stairs.

NOTE: That light will be taken out.

The decision to lighten up the cabinets was made in an effort to lighten up the area.

NOTE: We will be changing out the ceiling fan.

I know some people hate painting wood and I respect that.

The cabinets were lacquered. We went over them with ammonia to cut any dirt, then we used liquid sand but it did not cut the finish at all. We went over them again- still nothing. We went over them with steel wool- it was starting to remove the finish but not near enough. We went to 80 grit sand paper.

We removed all of the drawers and cabinets but have not worked on those yet.

Once we sanded we then went over the cabinets and interior cabinet walls with clean t-shirt material rags.

We went over them about 5 or 6 times but the dust was not going away.  We went over the cabinets with diluted ammonia and that did the trick.

We then put up plastic and put plastic down on the floors so the cabinets could be sprayed.

Today is a sneak peek as we are heading over to have the granite installed today.
