My Driftwood Boat continued

by CHERI on June 29, 2010

I am so sorry I did not post more of the progress yesterday.  My server was done for several hours yesterday and then it poured down rain, so I wasn’t able to paint the chair.

It all began with the seat back

I did, however, get the back heat sealed

and I got the seat painted.

If you prefer to use painters tape to keep your lines straight you can do that.  I just used a ruler and straight edge and penciled in my lines and then painted free hand.

I used a sponge brush that Rockler sent me and I don’t know what is different about their sponge brushes but they were fabulous.  Painting canvas, I anticipated going through several sponge brushed.  I figured the sponge would come off as I painted over the canvas.  Not only did the sponge stay on, but the sponge didn’t fall apart.

I used the DecoArt fabric medium:

I mixed it with several different colors (not all mixed together, each individually mixed with the Fabric medium).  I painted the fabric in RAW UMBER DecoArt paint. I love that color, it is one of my favorites.  Once it was dry to the touch, I drew in my lines and painted the stripes.  I used these colors:

Graphite

Slate Gray

(then I also mixed those 2 colors together with some raw umber, I was trying to re-create another favorite color that is not a DecoArt color)

Bleached Sand

Driftwood

Khaki Tan

So now I am off to sand and paint my chair.  I can’t wait to show you the final product.
