Do you remember this chair?
I picked it up at a garage sale and began working on it. I got the seat painted and then the rains came. No –rain isn’t the right word for it–it is like we are in a tropical rain forest. Hot, Sunny, HUMID and raining every day. Seriously, it is rainy season here in Florida. we have 3 seasons here-SUMMER, Tourists Season and Rainy (Hurricane) Season. I could not finish the chair part of this project. I had painted the hinges and screws and they were able to sit and cure for days and days. I did get a coat of primer and a dark chocolate brown under coat before the rain rain go awat game began.
If you would like to check out how I painted the seat and back you can click HERE and HERE for the tutorial
I did get out one morning before the downpour and get a coat of the weathered wood on my chair, got it in the garage to dry and then waited days before I could begin again.
I grabbed the MILLWOOD Milk Paint and a sponge applicator that Rockler had sent me and as soon as I went over the arm of the chair the DecoArt weathered wood showed its magic.
Have you ever used MILK PAINT? I hadn’t and I was thinking thin–NO WAY, it is super thick and I still have a lot of it left for another project. Then it dried for a couple of days.
I was able to go out in the sweltering heat yesterday and began sanding over some of the areas. I dry brushed some of the DecoArt Americana Raw Umber paint over some areas, for a little more depth.
Then, once dry, I went over it with the Sealer from Rockler. I love the finish it gave it, just a hint of a soft shimmer, it is beautiful. I LOVE this finish.
BEFORE:
I think it is such a GREAT MAKEOVER–how about you?
I will be showcasing this project over at the DIY Club
