My Americana Kitchen

by CHERI on August 25, 2010

This is the window box area in front of the kitchen sink. I took fabric and randomly stencilled blue stars on the fabric.  I added that board above the window as my curtain rod.

I took a couple of pieces of felt, stiched them together, singed the edges and the center of a miniature flag. I am not into flag burning but I wanted it to look like a flag that had been through a war. I had stitched (to look like vintage stitching) the words GOD SHED HIS GRACE.

Sorry about the quality of the photos, I had to scan actual photos.

I painted a cranberry stripe and then hand wrote in a gold leaf pen the words to GOD BLESS AMERICA.

I carried the stripe around the kitchen and finished the song. The cranberry stripe also gave me a good breaking line for my paint colors. The bottom of the walls were navy, the middle was painted a cappachino with a coffee creme’ rag rolled over the top and then the very top over the cranberry line was just the coffe creme.

I could not find curtains so I bought the red stripe. When I purchased the material it was bright red, so I coffee stained all of my fabric. We made a curtain rod and the hooks as well.  If you want to learn how I coffe stain material click {HERE}

See those ARROWS.  I took wood blocks to build up the area so the rod could come out far enough, so it would not hit the blinds.  Then we drilled a hole, added a rod and finished the end off with a metal star.  They were soooo cute.  We even put one on the middle support bracket.
