I wanted to make a menu board and knew exactly what I wanted it to look like.

Here is what you will need if you want to recreate this menu board:

DecoArt Chalkboard Paint  (it is the best chalkboard paint I have ever tried)

DecoArt WhiteWash Paint and Black Ebony

Design Divas (I got mine from our awesome sponsor Design Divas, she carries affordable plain sheets of vinyl if you want to cut your own.)Vinyl letters or plain vinyl

Gorilla Glue

Gorilla Tape

Dischangers (I used 2 of the 51/2″ ones–just for extra safety but you could use smaller ones-just weigh your item and check the weight/size chart on their site.)

Trim

Wood

Hemp Rope

Clothespins

CHALK

tiny eye hooks

I sanded my board till it was super smooth then painted my board with the chalkboard paint.  While that was drying I cut my trim boards and made my chalk holder for the bottom of the board.  I glued it together with my Gorilla Wood Glue and used the tape to hold it together while it dried.  then I painted all of my other accent wood trim.

I used the Americana Black Ebony and the WhiteWash

Once my chalkboard paint was dry I glued on my accent pieces and taped those down.

I rubbed over the letters with my credit cards, then removed the backing and applied, going over them with a credit card again.

I took a couple of clothespins apart and soaked them in a mixture of my black paint and water so they would be stained instead of painted.

I need to make my kids one so they can play with it.  I have an idea in mind.

Miss Goo went and got the chalkboard off the house (it used to have the address on it).  They love the chalkboard.

I love it because they can just look at the board to see what is for dinner.  The great thing about chalkboard paint, if you need to marearrange your meal plan it is super quick and easy.

I added little eye hooks to the side of the chalkboard try and tied a line of hemp rope.  I clipped on my clothespins and there is a place for people to clip a message like

MOM, We are out of MILK.  I need tot ake a better picture of that so you can see that part.  I took these pictures before my Dischanger was done drying.

Mentioning Dischangers-my favorite hanging tool.  I added 2 of the large one to the back for hanging it.

Here is an update now that everything is dry and nicely hanging on the wall.

Here is the glue activating, on my Dischangers–it only takes about 5 minutes.

I used the 2 of the largest sized Dischangers, even though it only weighs 5 lbs, but I knew I would have 4 kids writing on it and I would rather be safe than sorry.

Have I told you how much I LOVE Dischangers–I do. I use them on every project I can. They are fabulous. If you are applying them to wood, just rough up the area and then clean it up (you don’t want a slick finish)

The size I used will hold up to 7 lbs each and my project weighs 5 lbs.

Now for a few more close ups to show off my hemp rope and clothespins.

This is great…love it. My sons just hung a huge chalk board in their new apartment…since they are single I doubt it will have a menu on it….but it still be fun and a great conversation piece. Great project!

This is awesome. I love the functionality and the pretty, especially the chunky molding. Also, how cute is the chalkboard house number sign? I missed that post. I think I’m going have to snag your idea, Cheri.

Jami

LOVE it Cheri! I could really use one of these and your little Miss Goo is adorable! 😉

I also love what you’ve done with the place. Man, I need a makeover! Love the new header and buttons. SOOOO pretty and perfect. I’m not wanting to look at ‘fall’ yet. I’d rather enjoy your beachy warmth.

Thanks for sharing your creativity!

I love it! 🙂 I have a chalkboard in my kitchen. I really should use it and write out all the meals for the week! Maybe that will help me not let things go to waste! Hmmmmm! 🙂 Nice job!
