My Crate full of Harvest Squash

by CHERI on November 5, 2010

Do you remember when I made my crates?

I used GorillaGlue to make the crates.
I painted with DecoArt paints

I got the fruit crate graphics from the graphics fairy. I used my sanding bug from Rockler to age them a little, then sprayed on a coat of DEFT finishing spray from Rockler. I absolutely love that finishing of this spray-it is absolutely gorgeous.

2-highly recommended products from me–I use both of these products all of the time–they are a GREAT investment to your craft supplies.

I had made these crates back a while ago and I was trying to decide what to put on them. When I saw these over at the graphics fairy I knew I wanted to add them to one of the crates.

Don’t you just love all the colors of the different types of squash. Our selection of pumpkins is limited here so when I saw these squash I grabbed them up and they are edible as well.

First-I cleaned all of my squash with a spray to kills any microscopic growth
Next- I shined them up with a little vaseline. Sometimes I shine them to a high gloss and other times I barely shine them up.

Adding the vaseline helps to preserve them longer and that is a good thing here in Florida. It is great for cut pumpkins as well. We use this method when we are in the Midwest because you can cut your pumpkins earlier and seal the cut edges with a little vaseline–but here in Florida we usually wait till just 1 or 2 days before Halloween so they last. The heat makes them “go” a lot quicker here.

Do you decorate with real pumpkins and squash? I use both the real and the faux.

I love to decorate with pumpkins and squash! In an old crate is such a beautiful way to display them.
