Crackled Milk Jars Tutorial

by CHERI on June 17, 2011

Hi guys!  I’m Maryann from Domestically Speaking.  I’m so excited that Cheri invited me to share with you guys.  This past week I’ve been working on my summer mantel.  I thought I was finished, but I’m not very good at leaving “good enough” alone!

I shared this week at my weekly Power of Paint Party how I used paint to transform some grenadine bottles into those beautiful milk blue bottles.  Well… I wanted to play some more!
I thought… why not add a little crackle to my mantel… more texture right?

This is the cheapest & easiest thing to do, especially if you stock up on glue in August!
My bottle was already painted the beautiful milk blue… next step was to paint a nice thick coat of white glue.  Load your brush with a lot of glue and paint it on from top to bottom.  Get more glue on your brush and do the next section over.  Try NOT TO OVERLAP the glue and you want a coat that covers completely.

Now you have to wait!  But… thankfully for only 5 minutes!  Now take your top coat color, white in this case, and using the same technique… load your brush, work top to bottom with a nice thick coat & try not to overlap.
Now watch the magic happen!

Within minutes you will see the transformation begin and within an hour you will have the full crackle effect.

So fun!
I’ve got a Countdown to Summer Party going on through June 21st.  Come by and link up your summer related goodies HERE!
I also have a Power of Paint Party every Tuesday night.  If you love paint this is a great place to inspire & be inspired.
Thanks again Cheri for letting me stop on by! -

I love the way the bottle looks–I’ll have to try that!

Maryann,

I LOVE the bottles. I like them with just the paint and the crackled both the same. Snapple tea bottles look similar and might be a good option to recreate this project.

Thanks so much for blogging with me while I am out of town.
