Here is my original tutorial
I have been having so much fun making tassels.
It all started when I made this caramel apple tassel
If you have never made one before and don’t know where to begin here is the tutorial on how I made the caramel apple tassel.
Then I made this one for Miss G4 room–because every 2 year old needs a tassel — right.
I made it a little different but not because I felt like the first try was wrong, just for a different look.
I saw the letter holder and thought it would be perfect. The wood box was black so I carefully popped off the fleurs and painted it. It took several coats to cover the black. Then I hot glued the fleurs back on. I did not have a candle cup so I was being creative and used one of my cut up piece of wrapping paper tube and hot glued it to the bottom of the wood cube. I hot glued the end of the piece of fur I wanted to hang from the middle at the bottom of the tassel and stuffed it up in the little piece of tube, attaching it with a pair of sizzors (so I wouldn’t burn myself). Then I pulled out my ribbon that I keep on hand so I can make Miss G4 a hair bow to go with any outfits we might acquire and some wide rick rack I had left over from another project. I picked several of the pinks I have (we always have lots of different pink variations because Miss G4 loves pink) and a little green and laid them out in the order I wanted them and made the next layer of looped ribbon a little shorter than the fur and continued doing the layering process till I got to the top.
I had a small piece of that fluffy, furry material, from when I made (without a pattern) Miss G4’s dress, bolero jacket and matching purse, for the wedding-last month. I even made the rose bud button, to close the jacket and purse–from scratch.
Yep–just some ribbon, thread and sewing needle and I made this:
So back to the furry material. I had a piece wider than I needed but I wanted to scrunch it up. It covered up the last remains of wrapping paper tube. Then the wire hook was too long for a tassel so I added some of the rosebud fur I had left over from her outfit, wrapping it around about 3 times, then I added a little bling and a bow on top of that. I added a ribbon loop to the very top with some feathers, that had fallen out of one of Miss G4s dress up pieces and there she is. I love her.
So I am still working on this Winter Wonderland tassel but thought I would go ahead and post what I have done so far.
I used a Mandarin orange can. I like that it is plain, without ridges in the can I hot glued ice cycles, added a little paint, more hot glue and glitter to the top of the can. I poked holes through the sides and glued in my thick chenille for my “snowball bicket”. I stuffed an extra piece of white material in the can, to take up space then hot glued in my snowballs.
I plan on making the fur thinner around the bottom. I used the wrapping paper tube on the bottom of this one as well. Remember I told you to save up your paper towel, toilet paper and wrapping paper tubes? I have a tutorial that I am going to show you on Wed. that will knock your socks off. It is a really cute project for the holidays.
I stuffed feather up in the tube (using the end of the scissors to attach it–hot glue is really hot and it isn’t fun to touch it. I guess they came up with a really good name for it when they named it HOT GLUE-huh.)
I had not found exactly what I wanted in the ribbon area for this one so I bought an 1/8 of a yard of silver tissue lame’ and iridescent lame’ and made strips of ribbon for the bottom. SO I still have some changes to make to this one but she is coming along.

Cheri: Great idea for a party. I had a lot of fun trying something new with my tassel. So many choices of fringe and ribbon!!!
Your tassel for your little girl was adorable, I love the pure girliness (probably not a word) of it.
Have a great day…it's snowing a little in KC!

Those are so pretty! I've never made a tassel!
About your comment on my Faux Mercury Glass post: I did try some white watercolor paint on the outside of the vase to try to make it look more authentic, but it just made it look a bit muddy so I washed it off. I do think that putting some dark paint inside the base before you put the leafing on probably would turn out great!
You're very clever!
Very cute! I love your blog! Following you too!
Hi Cheri!
Sorry I've been a bit missing in action lately. We are dealing with swine flu over here and I've been working like mad this past week in preparation for my staircase party. Hopefully things will now slow down a bit so I can catch up with everyone! Looks like you've been busy making some cute tassels. Love them and looking forward to seeing all the inspiration.
Blessings,
Beth
Ok, I want you to know that I had EVERY intention of being ready for this party. You know that I already made the "creepy santa head" tassel, I just didn't take any pictures when I made it and I gave it to my mom (well, I made it at her house, and she claimed it) so I haven't had the chance to make a new one….grrrr…I really want to play, too! I big puffy pink heart your pink fleur de lis tassel!! So cute and girlie and I love fleur de lis!
I have not made a tassel YET!! but I may have to, now that i have seen all the cute ones that you have come up with! Love them! : )
So darned cute! If I wasn't so darned tired, I'd get tassel ingredients tonight!
LOve this project, Cheri! Thanks for linking up this week to Thrifty Thursday!

Beautiful tassels, Cheri! š
Deborah is so right, you make this look so easy! I hope your little girl enjoys her new tassle.
PS. Your link to the tutorial isn't working. If you can fix it, I'd be so grateful, I'd love to check out how to make one for myself. š
Fun tassles; you are very creative! Thanks for posting to Made it Monday! Jules
